72 large enterprises in Kazakhstan consume 30% of the country's energy resources

More than 21 thousand organizations and enterprises entered the State Energy Register in 2022 JSC "Institute for the Development of Electric Power and Energy Saving" of the MIID RK continues to monitor the implementation of the policy of reducing energy consumption in Kazakhstan. As you know, in 2012, the sectoral Law "On Energy Saving" was adopted in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and since 2013, the Rules for the formation and maintenance of the State Energy Register have officially come into effect in the country. JSC "Institute of Electric Power Industry Development and Energy Saving (Kazakhenergoexpertiza)" of the MIID RK was identified as the operator of the SER. Based on the data provided annually by the largest consumers of energy resources included in the SER, the Institute evaluates and analyzes the effectiveness of the measures taken to save energy and improve energy efficiency. In accordance with the law on energy conservation, enterprises included in the SER are required to ensure an annual reduction in energy consumption. In the analysis of energy consumption by the subjects of the SER, 72 enterprises consuming more than 100 thousand tons of conventional fuel per year were identified. These are mainly large enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex and the manufacturing industry. At the same time, their number is only 0.8% of the total number of organizations included in the state register. The share of consumption of these subjects accounts for 84% of the total energy consumption by the subjects of the SER and 30% of the total energy consumption by the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2020. The main energy resources consumed by SER subjects are coal (51% of the total energy consumption by SER subjects) and natural gas (21%). The energy audit conducted by large industrial enterprises showed that the energy saving potential in Kazakhstan is 2.3 million tons of conventional fuel. With the realization of this potential, it is possible to reduce the energy intensity of the country's GDP by 4% annually. For example, at KazZinc LLP, with the introduction of energy-efficient measures, the specific electricity consumption for the production of a ton of refined lead decreased by 25%, and annual savings amounted to 716 million tenge. JSC "Kartsement" reduced the specific electricity consumption for the production of a ton of cement by 10%. At the same time, the annual savings amounted to 207 million tenge. From 2014 to 2020, large enterprises of Kazakhstan invested about 150 billion tenge in energy-saving technologies and measures to improve energy efficiency. https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/miid/press/news/details/355458?lang=ru&fbclid=IwAR2wcGcRPoi1qJeqvhtt_rdmvRnHz-CS1xgZTYUWEimCKndz7Go_Jp4Gj0M
