The UNDP-GEF Project "Sustainable Cities for Low–carbon Development"

The UNDP-GEF Project "Sustainable Cities for Low–carbon Development" (hereinafter referred to as the Project) has been launched in Kazakhstan. This is a large—scale financing program aimed at increasing the attractiveness of investments in energy efficiency in Kazakhstan worth 5.93 million US dollars.

The main goal of the Project is to support the development of energy efficiency of urban infrastructure, including the reduction of negative impacts on climate change.

The technical partner of the Project is JSC "Institute for the Development of Electric Power and Energy Saving (Kazakhenergoexpertiza)", which performs technical expertise of project proposals to obtain support in the field of energy efficiency and small RES for their compliance with the criteria. Project Criteria:

- subsidizing up to 40% of the principal amount, with a total subsidy amount of no more than 180 million tenge;

- the period of commissioning/ completion of the Project should not exceed 150 days (in case of force majeure, an extension for a period of no more than 30 days is possible);

- loans in national currency are subsidized, payment occurs after the commissioning of the facility.

It should be noted that this Project is not aimed at supporting projects where the state's share of participation is more than 50% (with the exception of PPP projects).
